Beginner's Guide To Buffer

Time is of the essence in today’s fast paced world. You miss one tweet, or that one crucial Facebook post and bam! – there goes your audience. If content, is king and distribution is the queen, then timing is definitely their marriage vows. The correct time to connect with the target audience has been brought down to an absolute science with the million analytical tools being used for prediction.

But consider another aspect, would you as a social media manager or even a brand, have the capacity to monitor and post to all social platforms in real-time? Is a simultaneous content release possible? Step into the beautiful world of content schedulers. Ideate whenever, just schedule your tweets/posts and go on with your day.

Today we take a look at one such popular tool – Buffer. This is used to post your content on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn , even when it isn’t active in your browser. Buffer is a freemium tool, wherein basic access is granted in the free version, while the business one has added features of linking multiple accounts, group posting etc.

Before we go any further, just take a quick second and download the Whatfix extension for Chrome and Firefox. All set? Let’s get scheduling!

1. How to get started with Buffer

Buffer doesn’t need a single ID for signup.  You can choose to login directly with your Twitter ID, use that handle to create a login into Buffer, set a contact email id and you are good to go. This is a one time process only.

2. How to add social networks in Buffer

While Buffer does have the social networks right on its dashboard, you can choose to add/connect plenty of your handles onto it. Twitter, Facebook and more.

3. How to set/change post timings in Buffer

The most important reason to your Buffer – is that you can schedule your content anytime you want, from absolutely anywhere. But before you start posting, click on “Schedule” and add posting times. Remember to choose the right time zone though!

4. How to share content in Buffer

Just click on “Content” and see a familiar interface for your postings. You can choose to share your tweets ( for example) immediately by clicking ” Share Now” or even schedule them for later. In case of Twitter, the content box also keeps a track of your 140 character usage.

5. How to shorten links in Buffer

Link shorteners are an essential tool when you are dealing with a limited number of characters for your posts. The most popular ones are all connected to Buffer and will immediately shorten as soon as you paste your link in the content box.

And that’s it! A basic guide/run through Buffer and its features. Use the scheduler to your maximum advantage and get some quality free time for other creative purposes!
